Retail just not enough?

Myotis Wireless has an exciting opportunity for a salesperson.  Ideally, you're someone with retail sales experience but who is looking to grow way beyond retail and build something substantial. 


Myotis designs and builds high-performance wireless systems for industrial, military and commercial markets.  Our systems offer order-of-magnitude improvements in power consumption, robustness and interference avoidance. What’s unique about our systems is the core technology.  It’s the first fundamentally new radio system in decades.  It can do things no other system can, things customers care about, like ultra low power consumption over very long ranges, resisting interference from other systems and being virtually invisible to other radios.   We are the world’s experts in this technology and have the patents to prove it. We are committed to becoming a world leader.  We’re going to change how the world thinks about wireless devices. 

We’re looking for someone to build with us, and in doing so build something for themselves: equity, income, personal growth and perhaps even a legacy. 


Our first system has successfully completed field trials and we’ll be launching it in the next few months.  It’s targeted at outdoor industrial markets such as oil and gas, utilities, environmental monitoring, and security and surveillance. We’re now looking for people to help lead the commercial side of the launch and drive revenues.

Key Tasks:

  • Within the market sub-segments identified by management, find and acquire those critical first customers, most likely by engaging them in trials.
  • Work with R&D to ensure customer requirements can be met within cost and time constraints
  • Manage the trials through to successful completion and subsequent sales
  • Cold calling and networking.  We’ll generate a lot of leads from the website, trade shows and whatnot, but this job is about making lots of calls with a low hit rate.  That success rate will climb with time (dramatically, we hope) but if you like cold calling, that’s a good thing

Training:

We expect you to have good people skills, particularly listening and persuading,  We’ll teach you how to leverage those skills into corporate sales success.  We’ll send you to top-notch corporate training programs where you’ll learn how corporate sales work and the additional skills you’ll need to do them successfully.

Future Growth:

  • Launch more products to current customers
  • Launch the product into new markets, including military and consumer segments
  • Move the product into OEM and distribution channels
  • Build out  and lead the sales and marketing team
  • Just keep selling and growing your income...it all depends on how our future unfolds and what you want to do.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to thrive on uncertainty.  We have answered most of the big business questions but many questions remain.  We’re looking for someone who likes the opportunity posed by  uncertainty while they flexibly focus on achieving their goals.  We’ll give you lots of latitude, lots of support and encourage you to take risks and just try stuff.
  • 2 years or more of retail sales experience with demonstrated achievement of quota and/ or revenue goals.  This is a position for someone who already knows how to sell to people and now wants to sell to people in corporations.  If your manager loved you and your sales colleagues hated you, you are probably the person we’re looking for.
  • Technophile? You don’t have to be a geek but if your cellphone is older than the one in the Matrix, you may have some persuading to do.
  • Sense of humour. People who laugh are best at solving problems and overcoming adversity.  That’s what we need.  Besides, if you can’t have a laugh at work, what’s the point?  And who wants to work with a sourpuss anyway?

  • We’ve done this before.  The management team has built businesses before and already commercialized lots of products.  We also have some of the most experienced advisors and investors in Canada behind us.  We’ve learned from our mistakes and have reached the point where it’s not easy to throw us off track.  We  also call a spade a spade.  You’ll get nothing but straight, transparent talk from us.  Our work environment is anything but stuffy or corporate.
  • We’ll probably underpay you, cash-wise, at least at the beginning.  The salary ($40K/yr) is what we can afford, not necessarily what you’re worth. None of the rest of us are getting paid market rates either.  We are running on investor cash and must stretch it out as far as we can.  We’ll move you onto a commission basis as soon as we have products to sell, and if you’re the highest paid person in the company we’ll all be very happy.
  • Same for benefits.  Right now they suck, but as we get cash positive ….. On the upside, though, there is equity.  You’ll become a shareholder as soon as you join and your ownership will grow with your contribution.  We all know someone who made it big this way.  Why not take a shot at being next?
